The Ultimate Mana Card?

I remember most people disliking this card back in the day, comparing it to a loan shark. I think with the new cards out there these days, this card has renewed value. 3 colorless on round 1 is pretty dang awesome. If you happened to draw your Sol Ring and a dark ritual, and a swamp, you could have 6 mana on round one to play with. That’s a round one Carnifax Demon, Steel Hellkite or any number of other goodies! The best part is no $500 Moxes needed, just a $3 Mana Vault and a $6 Sol Ring. Life is an expendable commodity at the beginning of the game. I’ll take 1 damage for a few rounds for an opportunity to deal 5+ damage per round to my opponent any day. Like most of the round 1 mana generators, these are restricted to 1 per deck, but just like my trusty Sol Ring I’ll be putting one of these in every deck I have now.

EVERYONE loves a good dragon, especially this one...

This guy would definitely work well in a 2-headed giant game setting where the politics are a little more straight-forward. But... how cool is a dragon that one opponent controls, which allows you the option to help him/her screw over another opponent in a multi-player game setting? It's hilarius, as long as it's not happening to you that is. It would suck to be on the receiving end of a Mana-Charged Dragon after 2 or 3 additional opponents chipped in their spare mana.

Dave, "My 5/5 dragon with flying and trample will attack Greg. I'm going to pump 4 mana into him and make him a 9/5. Hmmm, hey Skyler and Geoff, if you guys are willing to pump in an extra 7 points into him, Greg will be dead even if he blocks with his Pestilence Demon. If you don't do it now, that thing will bite us all in the butt on his next turn once his black mana is all untapped!"

Champion's Helm

The new card Champion's Helm is definitely a decent card for keeping your favorite commander alive. Similar to the 'ol Whispersilk Cloak, but it's less expensive to equip and it only affects your opponents spells and abilities. The main drawback is that although +2/+2 isn't too bad by itself, the Champion's Helm needs to be put on a Legendary Creature for the Hexproof ability to kick in.

The rest of the EDH Gold Card spoilers!

I tracked down the rest of the spoilers for all of the rest of the gold / multi-colered cards in the EDH or Commander decks. You'll notice that each one is a legendary creature, so these were all designed to be the commanders. Just pick your favorite one and design your deck around it.

More EDH Card Spoilers!!

The casting costs of many of these cards are quite expensive for the quicker 1 on 1 games, but wow, there is a lot of cool stuff for multiplayer games in this set. I could see a lot of these cards being a lot of fun to use in the Titan Deck Format. Avatar of Slaughter would sure make the game go a lot quicker. Collective Voyage played on turn two of a 6 player game could yield one heck of a lot of mana for everyone! Better break out the Howling Mines so you actually have cards to cast later on.

Commander, aka EDH - Elder Dragon Highlander

Here is one of the new cards featured in the upcoming EDH Decks that will be released this weekend. The casting cost isn't ridiculous and it looks pretty fun to play!

Titan Deck Format

Object of this format:
  • The object of this play format is to encourage (ok, force) players to play with the larger and/or more expensive creatures that often get ignored because of high casting costs. The game play is designed to allow each player get established and to amass a fairly sizable army of creatures before any direct attacking is allowed. This is a great format for multi-player games.

Game Play:
  • Players start with 50 life
  • 10 Round Countdown to Destruction - (No player may attack another player for the first 10 rounds, then the carnage begins!)

Deck Requirements:
  • Minimum of 20 Creaures
  • All Creatures must have a minimum converted casting cost of 6

Restricted Cards:
  • You may only have up to a total of Annihilator 10 in your deck. IE: you could have ten creatures with Annihilator 1, or one creature with Annihilator 6 and two with Annihilator 2. This includes any card referencing Annihilator ability such as Eldrazi Conscription which gives a creature Annihilator 2.
  • Only one Spawnsire of Ulamog allowed per deck.
  • No creatures or cards with Infect or dealing with poison counters. This format is about pummeling your opponent with huge creatures rather than punking him with poison counters.
  • The card 'Lure' is banned. (This would be one of the most abused cards ever in this format)
  • Standard Vintage Format Deck Construction rules apply. (Ie: Only one Soul Ring in a deck)

What is this?

My friends and I have all been getting back into Magic: The Gathering lately. We all started way back in 1993 when Unlimited was available at the local gaming store to purchase. There are many playing formats already, but we're always coming up with new ways to create a fun MTG gaming environment to keep things fresh and fun. This blog will serve as a way that all of us can keep track of the specific rulings for each of our custom formats and also put it there in cyberspace in case others would like to use them too. I'm in this for fun, not money. Feel free to use and modify anything to suit the needs/wants of your group.

BTW - Stuffy Doll is the coolest card in the entire game!
